Q: Are your instruments handmade?
A: Yes! All our instruments are handcrafted by skilled artisans and musicians in Ghana and across Africa.
Q: Are all your instruments fair trade?
A: Yes, all our instruments are ethically sourced and fair trade, directly supporting the musicians and artisans who craft them.
Q: Do you offer international shipping?
A: Absolutely! We ship worldwide - shipping rates and times will vary based on your location.
Q: How long does shipping take?
A: Shipping times depend on your location. We offer next-day delivery for UK orders, while international orders can take 7-14 business days, sometimes longer depending on the location. However, if your order is 10 drums or over, we can't offer next-day delivery as it takes 2-3 days to prepare your drums for shipping!
Q: How do I care for my djembe drum?
A: To keep your djembe looking great, always store it in dry places and don't get it wet. You can wipe it down occasionally with a dry cloth and apply a bit of natural wood oil to the drum's wood. Before we send you your drum, this is also what we do, along with giving it a final sound check and tune to ensure it's in the perfect condition. Another great way to store your drum and keep it from getting damaged is by using one of our many colourful, made-in-Ghana drum bags, that you can purchase here, and get 50% off when you buy a drum!
Q: Do you offer reskinning services for drums?
A. Yes, we do! If you arrange and cover the shipping to us, we will reskin your drum and ship it back to you for £60. The reskinning process takes a maximum of 3 weeks, and we’ll return the drum with next-day delivery. Head to the Reskinning page for more information.
Q: What is the difference between the standard and professional djembes?
A. Here’s a breakdown of the difference between our standard and professional djembes:
-
Standard Djembe: This model features a single-weave rope tension system, which holds a great pitch and produces rich bass and clear tones. It’s ideal for beginners, hobbyists, schools, and workshops, providing an excellent balance of quality and affordability.
-
Professional Djembe: With twice as much of our high-quality rope, the professional djembe offers a more secure, stable tuning. Additionally, wood from the heart of the tree is used for the body, enhancing both durability and the depth of hand-carved details. This results in a slightly heavier drum with long-lasting stability, ideal for serious players or regular performers. It’s made to deliver a wider sound range, from deep bass to sharp slaps.
Both options are handmade in Ghana using sustainable Tweneboa wood, high-quality goat skins, and the same high-quality rope, so you’re getting an authentic, ethically made instrument with either choice.
Q: Can I return an instrument if I’m not satisfied?
A: Of course! If you’re not happy with your purchase, we offer a 14-day return policy, just make sure it’s in its original condition. Please note that the customer is responsible for covering the cost of return shipping.
Q: Do you offer bulk discounts for schools or workshops?
A: Yes, we offer special pricing for bulk orders. For more information on discounts for schools or workshops, head to the Djembe School Packs page or drop us a message!
