The 14" version is oversized, ideal for those with larger hands, offering more space to play comfortably.
This beautifully crafted Ghanaian djembe is tuned to a precise pitch, with high-quality rope ensuring it holds its tuning for a long time. The result is a deep bass and a sharp, crisp edge slap.
Made from Tweneboa, a sustainable West African Cedar of a very best quality, the drum is carved with meaningful Adinkra symbols. Each drum is uniquely carved with its own symbols, giving it a personal touch. You can explore the meanings behind Adinkra symbols here. Tweneboa is also a lightweight wood compared to hardwood alternatives, making the djembe easier to carry.
Unlike factory-made versions, these genuine fair-trade drums are handmade in Ghana by professional musicians, designed to be played and loved.
Every drum is handcrafted by skilled musicians we've partnered with for over 20 years, supporting and preserving ancient Ghanaian musical traditions.
The instruments are all individually handmade, rather than mass-produced in factories.
The body is made from sustainably sourced Tweneboa, a fast-growing wood, obtained under licence from the Ghana Forestry Commission.
- The durable goat skins are unbleached, providing superior sound quality.
- Every drum is polished with sesame oil and carefully tuned before being sent to you.

I had been thinking of buying a drum for a long time. Ended up discovering African Musical intruments on Ebay and emmidately felt a good vibe. So much so that I went ahead and ordered my drum right there and then.To my surprise the drum arrived a day early. Unboxing I have not been disapointed. The drum is beautiful, solid, well made and sounds AMAZING! and not to sound like a right bloody hippie but there is a vibe about this drumm that just feels good. I bought the 14" Djembe and the range of tones is extraordinary. I live in a flat in the center of London and able to enjoy playing the drum really quietly, sometimes with just my fingers tips, it's that responsive. I going to a drum circle next week and can't wait to feel the full power of this drum unleashed. VERY HAPPY with my purchase and on reading about all the work African Musical Instruements has been doing at source, in Ghana, I reckon I know where that good vibe feeling comes from.
Love the djembe, it and the free instruments are lovely and have a lovely sound to them. I can’t compare it with a more expensive djembe, but it sounds so much better than the one I had borrowed from a friend. Lovely different tonal ranges and sounds just as good as those on YouTube so for the price, I’m very happy with my new djembe. Happy to recommend it to anyone starting out.
I am absolutely delighted with this drum, it is most likely the best item I have bought online. This seller is A+ in my opinion and all the support for Afrian community makes it a true pleasure to be involved with . I can’t believe the gift inclusion too, that was a surprise, thank you! Highly recommended, don’t look anywhere else, you won’t be disappointed. 🌟
If you’re shopping around, look no further!! I’ve never received a service like this! Any queries just contact them! I received my 14” djembe the next day, tailored to my needs & tuned to my requirements! I made the mistake of buying a synthetic Meinl djembe elsewhere, almost twice the price but returned it! No comparison to African Musical Instrument's djembes! Impeccable service & a product to match! Awesome
Just taken delivery of my beautiful new drum. It's wonderful... great sound and an amazingly high-quality instrument. African Musical Instruments is committed to community projects in Ghana, and it's good to know that this is a Fair Trade product helping support the livelihoods and heritage of Ghanaian musicians and craftspeople. Now I just need to practice a LOT :)
