The caxixi shakers are beautifully crafted from colourful dried grass, intricately woven into a calabash base and filled with small stones. These shakers are used throughout Ghana, locally known as ‘Torowa’ in Tw and ‘Akaye’ in Ewe.

Unlike factory-made versions, these genuine fair-trade instruments are handmade in Ghana by professional musicians, designed to be played and loved.

  • Every instrument is handcrafted by skilled musicians we've partnered with for over 20 years, supporting and preserving ancient Ghanaian musical traditions.
  • The instruments are all individually handmade, rather than mass-produced in factories.

If you're looking for an authentic instrument with heart, heritage, and a beautiful sound, this is it.
